Canadian Ryan MacDermid Set for Circuit of the Americas Debut

Podium result the goal to end rookie season strong

Traveling from his home near Toronto, Ontario, to Austin, Texas, Canadian Ryan MacDermid is set to take on the F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda finale. Competing alongside the Formula One World Championship at the ultra-fast and challenge Circuit of the Americas, MacDermid is aiming to complete his rookie season strong.

"It has been a good season so far, but I want to be on the podium," explained MacDermid, a rookie in the series this season. "I need to remember that I have really only completed five race weekends since graduating from karts, but I push myself very hard and will continue to do so to ensure I finish the year strong."

Making a team switch mid-season to the Velocity Racing Development program, MacDermid took the most recent round in Sebring, Florida, to come to grips with a new car setup, new engineer and new teammates. Traveling to the Circuit of the Americas last week, MacDermid sampled an F3 Americas Honda powered Ligier to get accustomed to the COTA facility.

MacDermid added, "Due to the testing regulations for the F4 series, I was unable to drive an F4 car at the Circuit of the Americas before the event. Luckily, the VRD program also has an F3 team and this allowed me to gain some experience in an open wheel car that is faster than I currently drive. Needless to say, I loved it."

The goal of the test was not to set new track records, but just learn the nuances of one of North America's premier facilities. In a unique track layout that has a mix of slow and high-speed corners as well as very long straightaways, it was a good confidence builder heading into the November 1-3 event.

With the condensed weekend schedule, MacDermid will be on track twice on Friday, once in the morning for the one and only practice session on the weekend and then for qualifying that afternoon. Saturday morning will see the first of two wheel-to-wheel races on the weekend while Sunday will be the home of the final event of the 2019 season.
