A Jay Howard Driver Development (JHDD) enjoyed a dominant weekend at Circuit of The Americas for Rounds 16 and 17 of the 2019 F4 US Championship courtesy of Christian Bogle’s first career win and Christian Brooks’ third win of the season.
Supporting the Formula 1 event, the Saturday race saw Bogle take a superb maiden career victory, with Brooks charging through the field to finish second having started 19th after technical issues in qualifying. Wyatt Bricachek, having qualified an encouraging fourth, suffered heartbreak on the formation lap as an engine issue prevented him from taking the start. Nolan Siegel, making his F4 US Championship debut, finished a spirited seventh, with Hayden Bowlesbey storming through the field to finish 10th, claiming a point in the process. Zoey Edenholm, also enjoying her JHDD debut, came home P13 in the 38-car field.
Sunday morning saw the huge field take to the grid once again for Round 17 and the final race of the 2019 season. The JHDD squad were determined to finish the season in style, and after an entertaining battle for the lead, Brooks brought his Global machine across the line first to secure his third win of the season, capping an excellent first year in open wheel racing. Bogle continued his recent impressive form to finish second, showing remarkable progress throughout what has been his first season in racing. Siegel carried on from where he left off in Saturday’s race to finish a hard fought and entertaining fourth. Bricachek was arguably the star of the race, however, as he charged from the back of the field to finish eighth in the 10-lap encounter. Edenholm finished 17th in what was an encouraging debut weekend with the team, with Bowlsbey coming home in the 20th position after a hard-fought battle with the midfield pack that was nose-to-tail for the entire race.
JHDD finishes the 2019 racing season with seven wins between the F4 and Road to Indy categories, and Jay Howard was naturally delighted with his team’s performance. “What more can I say about this team? We have just been improving throughout the season which is a testament to all of the hard work the boys and the drivers have been putting in, and to see Bogle win his first race in front of the Formula 1 crowd was special. Brooks finished his season in style with another win today, and to score back-to-back 1-2 finishes at COTA is something I will remember for a long time. Huge thanks to all of the drivers for their commitment to the team this year, and I’m already looking forward to 2020!”
WHAT THE DRIVERS SAID:
#3 Hayden Bowlsbey Round 16 – P10; Round 17 – P20 “Overall not the best weekend of my career, but it wasn’t terrible. I was hoping to get deeper into the top 10, but I was busy holding my position while only getting very small moments to focus on passing. Now I have to focus on 2020 and do better next season! “
#4 Christian Brooks Round 16 – P2; Round 17 – P1 “In Race #1 we started 20th due to a transmission failure in Qualifying. The race ended up really well, we were able to get from 20th to second just shy of first place, which is where I wanted to be. It was still a great day, but I was shooting for the win on Sunday. In Race #2 we were starting 6th and was able to make my way up to first. It was a great 1-2 finish again for the Jay Howard team. We had a great weekend and I think that puts us in second in the championship. It was a great season and couldn’t really ask for more. A huge shout out to the team and to everyone who makes it possible for me to race.”
#5 Wyatt Brichacek Round 16 – DNF; Round 17 – P8 “The weekend started out good with a P4 in qualifying and I was in a good position to win. Unfortunately, my race was cut very short after blowing an engine on the pace lap for race 1. I started race 2 in 35th and made my way up to 8th in just 8 laps. The weekend was definitely not how I wanted to end the season considering I had the pace to win. A big thanks to the JHDD boys for getting the car back together for the second race. Now it’s time to focus on the 2020 season.”
#6 Zoey Edenholm Round 16 – P13; Round 17 – P17 “My first race event with JHDD was a success! I learned a lot from the team and had great progression throughout the whole weekend. For Race 1 I started 27th and ended up 13th! The team worked hard to get me here this weekend and I just want to give them a huge thanks, as well as my supporters for making it a great weekend and learning experience!”
#7 Christian Bogle Round 16 – P1; Round 17 – P2 “Just wrapped up the weekend here in COTA. I ended up with two podium finishes this weekend and the first two podiums of my racing career. I was able to come home with first place in the first race and second in the second race. I am really, really happy with this weekend. With the progression I’ve made with just one year of racing is just really incredible. This race last year I was at the back of the grid and almost ten seconds off pace. Coming into this weekend I had no idea that I was going to be able to pull of what I did. I am very, very happy with the weekend and this racing season”.
#8 Nolan Siegel Round 16 – P7; Round 17 – P4 “I had a great first weekend in F4 with JHDD. The car was fast from the very beginning and we kept getting faster all weekend long. In race 1 I had a clean race and was able to secure a 4th place starting spot for the start of race 2 and held onto it until the end. The team did a great job and my teammates were 1-2 in both races, so congratulations to them.”
