Oliver Westling Graduates to Race in the Formula Regional Americas Championship Powered By Honda
September 17, 2022 - California rookie Oliver Westling will take another big step in his driver development program, as he graduates to compete in the Formula Regional Americas Championship Powered by Honda (FR Americas) starting at VIRginia International Raceway, October 6-9.
Westling has competed in 18 races over seven event weekends driving the Ligier JS F4 car, including the first four rounds of the 2022 Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda (F4 U.S.) season. To prepare for his F4 U.S. series debut, Westling also competed in the F4 West Coast Winter Series where he scored two podium finishes en route to a second-place result in the series championship.
Jensen F4 Championship Team owner Eric Jensen comments, "Oliver is naturally quick and has developed his driving and racing skills at a rapid pace during the past year. Finishing the 2022 race season with Oliver competing at the higher level Formula Regional Americas Championship is ideal, so that he can gain experience in advance of competing full-time in the series during the 2023 race season."
Speeds increase substantially as young drivers graduate from the Ligier JS F4 race car to driving the considerably more powerful 303-horsepower turbocharged Ligier JS F3. There is also the added challenge of understanding aerodynamic grip, as the Ligier JS F3 race car generates significantly more downforce from the diffuser and larger front and rear wings.
