JHDD Adds One Win, Three Podiums, and Nine Top-Ten Results at Road America

May 25, 2023 – In a busy month of May for Jay Howard Driver Development (JHDD), it was a trip to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, and the second event weekend of the F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda. Taking on the famed Road America, JHDD left the facility with more wins and podiums as they continue to prove why they are one of the best programs in F4 U.S. competition.

Leading the way in qualifying was Frankie Mossman as his results would set the tone for the rest of the weekend. With a fifth-place effort in the one and only timed session, Mossman would start race one on the inside of row three in P5 while Eric Wisniewski was tenth, just ahead of Michael Costello in 11th. Tanner Defabis, Michael Boyiadzis, and Logan Adams also earned top-20 starting spots in 16th, 19th, and 20th while Dane Scott lined up 23rd.

“The opening couple of laps, we were P1, P2, the entire team was quick, but then timing and scoring shut down,” explained Jay Howard. “There was a lot of confusion, no lap times were posted for the majority of the session and once the final results of qualifying were posted, the order did not make sense, however, our drivers did a good job recovering.”

Race one on the weekend saw a pair of JHDD drivers cross the line in the top-five led by Frankie Mossman who stood on the third and final step of the podium. Just behind him, Michael Costello was fourth when the checkered flag flew. Just outside the top-ten, Logan Adams gained nine positions to finish in P11, one position ahead of Tanner Defabis in 12th. One more top-20 result came at the hands of Boyiadzis as he was able to finish 16th.

Back to the track Sunday, JHDD earned their first win of the weekend courtesy of Saturday’s podium finisher Costello. The young gun added to his point total as he looks to make a run at the end-of-the-year championship. It was four drivers in the top-ten for JHDD as behind Costello, Boyiadzis finished eighth to lead a trio of team competitors with Adams and Mossman in ninth and tenth respectively. With four drivers in the top-ten, six finished in the top-15 with Eric Wisniewski taking the checkered flag in the 12th position and Defabis in P14. Unfortunately, race one and two saw Dane Scott involved in incidents that were no fault of his own.

Wrapping up the weekend with another podium finish, Mossman stood on the second step of the famed Road America podium with a P2 finish to lead JHDD. With race three one of the more difficult ones for the Jay Howard branded competitors, Wisniewski crossed the line 12th ahead of Costello in 14th. Dane Scott earned his best result of the weekend with a P16 result, just ahead of Defabis in 17th.

Howard continued, “Road America is a great track and provides for some awesome racing, but the yellow flags this weekend hindered our drivers from really showing the speed they had. It is unfortunate, but we will shift the focus to the next event in one months’ time.”

Additionally, Ava Dobson was able to take part in the weekend behind the wheel of an F4 machine gaining experience and developing her skillset for the future.
