Atlantic Racing Team Announces Plans for 2024; James Lawley to Move Up to FR Americas

November 14, 2023 - Atlantic Racing Team is proud to announce that it has re-signed their Haligonian driver James Lawley, switching from the 160-hp Ligier JS F4 to the 303-hp Ligier JS F3 to compete in the 2024 Formula Regional Americas Championship (FR Americas) / F3 series.

Lawley competed with Atlantic Racing Team in the 2023 Western Winter Series and Western F4 Series where he gained experience and accumulated first- and second-place podiums. He then made a mid-season switch to the professional Formula 4 United States Championship (F4 U.S.), where he accumulated valuable FIA driver points.

“James made tremendous progress when we finished the winter testing in early 2023 and once we started our mid-season tests at Atlantic Motorsport Park (AMP) in preparation for the switch toward F4 U.S., we all realized his so-far-untouched driving potential and provided him with the opportunity to gain experience in the FR car,“ said Ingo Strackerjan, Team Manager. “James responded not only with F4 U.S. times never before seen at AMP, but also with an unofficial track record at AMP for open wheel cars. This encouraged his parents, sponsors and the team to further test in both disciplines, entering some regional races and ending the year with more hardware in his collection!”

After a short winter break, Lawley and his team will start testing the FR Americas car at the Motorsport Ranch (MSR) near Dallas, Texas, as well as in Buttonwillow, Calif., at Buttonwillow Raceway Park, until the start of the Western Winter Series season and going forward to the FIA-certified FR Americas season in 2024.

Atlantic Racing Team’s 2024 season will have one seat available in each series--each at competitive prices--including the newly-created "junior" Ligier JS F4 Series, the FIA-certified F4 U.S. Championship utilizing the Ligier JS F422 "Get 2" car, as well as another car available to compete in FR Americas. Testing for all three programs will start in early January 2024.

In 2024, Lawley will also be running his 2 stroke 100 ccm kart in select national and regional events whenever his business studies at Acadia University and work as an FIA-approved driving instructor for corporate events in Atlantic Racing Team’s Formula BMW Academy cars allow him to do so.
