YEAR IN REVIEW: Daniel Quimby Headlines 2024 Season as F4 U.S. Champion

Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Earns Sixth F4 U.S. Team Championship, while Connor Roberts Earns Most Improved Driver and Omologato Perfectly-Timed Pass Award

CHARLOTTE (December 31, 2024) – The 2024 season was one to remember for Formula 4 United States Championship (F4 U.S.), marking the debut of a new chassis, fierce on-track battles and drivers from around the world looking to take the top step of the podium. When the final checkered flag waved, it was Atlantic Racing Team’s driver Daniel Quimby who emerged as the driver champion, while Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport once again celebrated as the Team Champion. Not to be left out, Connor Roberts and his Team Roberts Racing also had quite a bit to celebrate this season, as the organization not only won Third-Place Team Champion honors, but Roberts was also named the Catherine Crawford Most Improved Driver and awarded the Omologato Perfectly-Timed Pass Award.

F4 U.S. Driver Champion

With the second generation Ligier JS F422 chassis making its on-track debut in 2024, Daniel Quimby (No. 24 Cruise America / MIR Raceline / FIJI Airways / GalvanizeIns Ligier JS F422) faced intense pressure throughout an ultra-competitive season which saw six different drivers visit Victory Lane during the 14 rounds of competition.

With five total event weekends, the Australian spent the majority of the season in a neck-and-neck battle with his fellow countryman, Nicolas Stati (No. 15 AGI Sport Ligier JS F422). Stati took the first win of the season during the season opener at Road America, as Quimby notched his first victory in Round 2. The following month at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Stati became the first driver to earn two victories after winning Round 4, but Quimby matched the statistic as he drove to Victory Lane in Round 5. However, as the series left New Jersey Motorsports Park, it appeared Stati may have the advantage after he earned his third win of the season and Quimby missed the podium in two of the three rounds.

All that changed when the series pulled in to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in late August. Racing for Nova Scotia-based Atlantic Racing Team, Quimby swept the weekend, winning all three races and bringing him within 5.5 points of then-leader Stati, as the series raced toward the season-finale weekend at Circuit of The Americas (COTA). With three rounds remaining, Quimby pulled together two more runner-up finishes, allowing him to overtake Stati and win the championship by a mere 4.5 points.

“Awesome season this year,” said Quimby during the year-end awards celebration. “We had some ups and downs; a couple of problems here and there, but we sorted them out, and by the end of the season we were really strong. The car’s a really good car, and the team's done a really good job with it. Lucas, Ingo and everyone at Atlantic Racing Team—I can't thank you enough. I’d like to thank everyone who’s come on board this year to make this possible—Motorhome Republic, Cruise America, Crankhouse, Galvanize Insurance, FIJI Airways, MIR Raceline. I also have to thank my family for the sacrifices they make for me; it’s pretty amazing. Thank you to everyone that I’ve raced against this year; it’s been a good season. To Tony , Scott , you run a really good championship—thank you. Thank you to everyone.

As the 2024 Driver Champion, Quimby has secured a scholarship to compete in the 2024 FR Americas season. Valued at more than $215,000 the prize package includes an engine and chassis lease from Ligier Automotive, three sets of tires per event from Hankook Motorsports and entry fees from Parella Motorsports Holdings. In addition to earning valuable FIA Super License Points, Quimby was awarded a variety of other prizes, including a carbon Bell helmet, custom OMP racing suit, bespoke Omologato timepiece, Haas F1 Team guest experience at Quimby’s home Australian Grand Prix and an invitation to the FIA Prize Giving Ceremony.

F4 U.S. Team Champion

Fielding entries for Stati, Alex Crosbie (No. 41 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F422) and Barrett Wolfe (No. 13 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F422), as well as COTA entrant Seth Gilmore (No. 08 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F422), Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport won their sixth F4 U.S. Team Championship. Leading the Team Point standings from the very first checkered flag all the way through to the completion of the season, Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport drivers accounted for five wins and 18 podiums during the 14 rounds. Team co-owners Garry Orton, Teena Larsen and Gill Kaszuba all took the stage together to accept the team’s trophy during the year-end awards celebration.

Most Improved Driver

Connor Roberts (No. 46 ApexSpeed.com / Entropy Cellars Ligier JS F422) was named the recipient of the 2024 Catherine Crawford Most Improved Driver Award, which also awarded him a $3,000 parts credit from Ligier Automotive North America.

A rookie in F4 U.S. competition, Roberts immediately took to the new Ligier JS F422 chassis, starting the year with three consecutive podiums during the season-opening weekend at Road America. However, his progress slowed during the season’s fourth round when contact sent him rolling into the gravel trap while racing for third. His family-owned Team Roberts Racing crew had to work swiftly to repair their car for the race the following day, but it took an additional three rounds before Roberts finally returned to podium form. In fact, his finish in Round 8 at New Jersey Motorsports Park wasn’t just a podium—it was his first F4 U.S. win. From that point forward, Roberts never finished outside the top three, solidifying his status as the most improved driver.

Omologato Perfectly Timed Pass Award

Roberts was also awarded the 2024 Omologato Perfectly Timed Pass Award, which recognizes the driver who picks up the most spots from their starting position to their finishing position of each race. Throughout the 14 events this season, Roberts picked up 15 positions to secure the award.
